[Kyoto, Japan] HORIBA, Ltd. is proud to announce that its ADS EVO Automatic Driving System has been selected as the Winner of the German Design Award 2024, which is one of the most prestigious international awards setting the standard for innovative design. This is the third time that the HORIBA Group has received a German Design Award but the first to be honored as a winner. We will continue to pursue designs with high usability going forward to deliver valuable products to our customers.
About Award-winning ADS EVO Automatic Driving System
The ADS EVO drives prototype vehicles in place of human drivers on chassis dynamometer based tests. Chassis dynamometers are often used by automotive and other manufacturers to drive prototype vehicles inside their laboratories as for example to test or evaluate fuel consumption, exhaust gas, and other vehicle characteristics. The ADS EVO learns the habits of human drivers and automates tests while replicating the tendencies of vehicles driven manually.
By supporting a broad range of other tests toward electrification and carbon neutrality, such as the evaluation and certification of energy efficiency the ADS EVO provides usability and labor-savings for all users by dramatically reducing the time required for setup.
Statement of the jury
The 'ADS EVO' is a state-of-the-art driving robot for automated vehicle testing, which adapts to the ergonomics of a typical cockpit with its technical-functional design and masters steering wheel movements just as confidently as the pedal system.

The German Design Award is an international design award hosted by the German Design Council, a leading authority in design and brands founded in 1953. As one of the most prestigious design awards in the world, the German Design Award only nominates designs recommended by the German Design Council selected from designs celebrated by other design awards held across the globe. As the award for award-winning designs, it is an honor to simply be nominated for this award.
The awards consist of four categories: Gold, Winner, Special Mention, and Nominees. The German Design Award presents the Gold, Winner, and Special Mention awards to the most outstanding designs selected from among the nominees.
